This year, among other things, we resolved to try new things and seek out new learning opportunities with our kiddos. I had followed Stephanie's journey online as she created Sprouts Cooking School in Carmel. Check out the video that tells her story here. I was so inspired by this beautiful mother who sought to create a school that would make culinary skills accessible to families in Central Indiana at a cooking school for kids. I couldn’t wait to schedule a one-on-one date with my oldest who is five and full of energy.
We joined Sprouts for a 2-hour Peter Rabbit cooking class on a Sunday morning, and it was amazing! The space itself is a breath of fresh air, and you can see care has gone into every detail. The setup of the kitchen is adorable with four workstations equipped with sinks, storage drawers, outlets and cooktops. On the back wall there are microwaves and ovens that are labeled A, B, C and D to correspond with the stations. Adorable coat/bag hooks adorn the wall and a chalkboard colorfully outlines what’s on the menu for the day.
We celebrated the upcoming release of the new Peter Rabbit movie by cooking themed treats while wearing the most adorable bunny ears. The dishes were not only creative to go along with the movie theme, but they were incredibly delicious. From dirt pudding topped with crushed oreos and a strawberry dipped in orange-colored white chocolate to carrot cake muffins and herby ranch dressing, everything was so flavorful and fun. My 5-year-old son learned to peel, grate and even chop (with scissors) and he was so excited about trying out the electric mixer with my help. We used math skills to measure and time our dishes, and with cooking everything is hands-on and involves so many senses. I love the memories (and photos - thanks to Sprouts) we have cooking yummy treats together in our rabbit ears. Plus, the fun continued as we brought our goodies home to share. My son literally hasn't stopped talking about it!
I had especially high hopes for our visit, and the class truly exceeded my expectations. I give major kudos to Stephanie and her family. Stephanie made it a point to come around to each station and provided guidance and encouragement to every child. She made each child feel special, and that really stood out to me. Her kiddos were also there for this particular class and they were not only very well-behaved but so helpful! I was totally impressed by the space, the staff, the class and the fun items we got to take home.
We can't wait to visit Sprouts again and hope to gift this experience to others who want some amazing one-on-one time with their kids or grandkids! You have to check this place out - you’ll be amazed what you can learn on a cooking adventure. Plus, you’ll come home with treats, new tricks, and most importantly a happy helper.
